We're sorry to announce that there is no way on Earth that we can release this blog post without a Back To The Future reference, in fact, there will be several. Hang on the for the ride though, we'll put down our hover boards and tell you a little about the electric Delorean before Doc hits 88 MPH in the thing.

Made iconic in the 80's film "Back To The Future", the full history of the Delorean reads a little like an action movie itself. John Z. Delorean founded DMC in Northern Ireland and began pumping out cars in 1981, however, by 1982 the company was in receivership turning out approximately 9,000 cars before the British Government ordered the doors closed. There's a great article about the man and the machine located here

So what's up with the Delorean now? Well... a lot and to make a long story short, lets jump right in.

Delorean Motors Company, now owned by Stephen Wynne, came to Chris Anthony, CEO of Epic EV with an idea of working on an electric car "Stephen came to us to talk about electric drive train technology and that conversation turned to our lightweight composites abilities in Louisiana and then onto, well lets just build a new DMC EV" says Anthony. Never one to sit on an idea too long, Chris and his team jumped at the chance to create something new and exciting as he has done several times in the past with other ventures like Aptera. According to Anthony, Wynne's team had tried several times in the past to make an electric version, but then turned to Epic EV as a partner for development.

Epic EV will continue to work with DMC moving forward. Is there a flux capacitor in the future? We'll have to wait and see but Anthony did say "DMC will concentrate on overall vehicle architecture and production concerns while Epic EV will provide drive system and battery technology from Flux Power along with lightweight composite chassis technology to lighten up and improve the strength of the DMCEV."
